The city of West Richland covers about 22 square miles in Benton County, Washington. An estimated population of roughly 14,000 people live in a peaceful environment of sunshine, recreation and wine production. This number represents a 65% increase since 2000, indicating the city has grown significantly in recent years.

Settlement on the land that eventually became West Richland began in the late 1870s. The first schoolhouse was built in 1896, well before the creation of Benton County in 1905. Around this time and up past World War II, the West Richland area was known as Lower Yakima. West Richland was officially incorporated in 1955, combining the two relatively young towns of Heminger City and Enterprise. In 2008, West Richland hosted the speed test for the fastest production car in the world, topping 250 mph.
